When Raquel and Pedro decided to get married, they already knew what they didn’t want: a traditional wedding with hundreds of guests, formal timelines, and pressure from everyone else.

I had the pleasure of being their elopement photographer and documenting this day for them. From the moment we met, it was clear: their connection ran deep. They’ve been together for many years, and their bond is the kind that doesn’t need grand stages, just a beautiful place, quiet time, and each other.

From Quiet Alleys to a Gondola Ceremony

We started the experience walking through the heart of Venice, stopping in peaceful corners of the city as the light danced on the canals. No crowds, no stress, just real moments, quiet smiles, and a feeling of total presence.

Then came the most unique part of the day: a ceremony aboard a gondola, gently gliding through the canals. Yolanda had arranged everything with such care: from the delicate flowers to the bottle of wine, and even a small cake for them to cut right on the Grand Canal. Yes, you read that right, they cut their wedding cake on a gondola, surrounded by water, kissed by golden light, and lulled by the calm water of the canals.

A Symbolic Wedding in Venice Full of Joy (and a Few Tears)

Their vows were simple and raw: there were tears, laughter, and that trembling voice you get when you speak straight from the heart.
We were all a little emotional (even behind the camera, I’ll admit). It was deeply beautiful. This is what elopement is about: a celebration on your own terms.

Eloping Means Freedom, Even When the Weather Changes

Originally, we had planned everything for sunrise. But as often happens in Venice, the weather had its own ideas and the forecasts looked awful.
So, we moved the whole thing to the evening before. No stress, no drama, just flexibility. And that’s one of the most beautiful things about eloping: you can adapt, breathe, and make decisions that actually serve the experience, not the logistics.

As the gondola floated quietly through the canals, Raquel and Pedro leaned into each other, smiling, teary-eyed, wrapped in the silence of the city. The world faded.
