A Relaxed Venice Engagement Photoshoot in Dorsoduro

This Venice engagement photoshoot took place in one of the quietest and most atmospheric corners of the city: Dorsoduro and Punta della Dogana. Far from the busy streets around San Marco, this area of Venice has a slower rhythm, with wide views over the lagoon, soft light reflecting on the canals, and peaceful alleys that feel almost untouched by the crowds.

From the very beginning, this couple told me they wanted something relaxed and personal for their engagement photoshoot in Venice. No stiff poses, no pressure to follow a certain aesthetic. They simply wanted to walk through the city together and capture their connection in a natural way.
Dorsoduro was the perfect place for that. We wandered through quiet canals and small bridges, letting the city guide the session. The atmosphere felt intimate and spontaneous, almost like a slow walk rather than a formal photoshoot.

What made this Venice engagement session feel especially unique was how much they embraced their own style. She had a distinctive, slightly alternative look that added personality to the images, and they didn’t hesitate to simply be themselves. At one point she lit a cigarette while they paused along the canal, creating a cinematic moment that felt raw and honest rather than staged. They had also brought along an Instax camera, which turned into a fun part of the session. Instead of only being photographed, they started taking pictures of each other too, laughing and comparing the instant prints as they developed. It added a playful layer to the experience and made the photoshoot feel even more personal. As we reached Punta della Dogana, the blue hour glowed over the lagoon, with sweeping views toward San Giorgio Maggiore and the entrance of the Grand Canal. It’s one of the most beautiful spots in Venice for photos, especially when you’re looking for space, quiet, and that wide Venetian landscape.

Sessions like this remind me that a Venice engagement photoshoot doesn’t have to follow a formula. Sometimes the most meaningful images come from simply walking through the city, letting moments unfold naturally, and allowing each couple’s personality to shape the experience.
Every engagement session in Venice ends up telling a different story, and that’s exactly what makes them so special.

  • It was like working with a friend the entire time

I am so pleased that I picked Silvia to work with me on my surprise engagement that I can’t imagine having a better experience with anyone else. She was prompt in communication, clear in instruction, thoughtful and creative with the shoot planning. Though I wish I spoke more Italian (still learning!), she was fluent in English and was very friendly and conversational with us after our big moment and throughout the shoot.

From the moment of the proposal to the reveal of the secret photographer to the end of the shoot, my fiancee and I agree that it was like working with a friend the entire time. The photos are BEAUTIFUL and match the style of her portfolio. We hope to keep in touch with Silvia and wish her the best going forward in her photography career! <3
