A Lake Braies elopement in early May looks nothing like the summer version of this place. When I arrived that morning it was snowing lightly, briefly, the kind that stops almost as soon as it starts. The lake was wrapped in cloud, the peaks barely visible, and the whole valley had that particular stillness that only happens before the season begins and before anyone else arrives.
Angel and Sean were staying at the hotel on the lake. Before anything else, there were the two of them enjoying the moment: sitting by the window, warm cups in hand, completely unhurried. That quiet hour before getting ready is something I always remember from elopements: it’s often where the real day begins.
Then Sean went ahead to wait at the palafitta. Angel got dressed, and we walked down together. The first look on the dock was one of those moments that doesn’t need any description, you could feel it before it even happened. They exchanged vows on the pontile with a playlist playing softly in the background. No officiant, no script, no audience. Just the two of them, the lake behind them disappearing in and out of the clouds, and a wonderful bouquet that somehow matched the mood of the morning perfectly.
The clouds kept moving the whole time, sometimes the peaks appeared, sometimes they didn’t. By the end of the session, the light had changed completely. Early May at Lake Braies does that and I love it!
