Civil wedding in Venice is the only way to make your marriage legally recognized in this iconic city and in your home country. Unlike symbolic ceremonies, which offer complete flexibility, legal weddings must take place in official venues authorized by the local municipality. In Venice, that means the stunning Palazzo Cavalli, the historic city hall located right on the Grand Canal.

Civil Wedding in Venice: Palazzo Cavalli
Getting married at Palazzo Cavalli means stepping into a space filled with history, elegance, and unmistakable Venetian charm, and for Giulia & Enrico this made their early September wedding feel even more special. The ceremony room, with its large windows overlooking the Grand Canal and its warm, ornate details, created the perfect atmosphere for their intimate celebration with just their closest family and friends. As they exchanged rings in this historic city hall, the moment felt incredibly personal and emotional, the kind of quiet beauty that stays with you long after the day is over.
To celebrate, Giulia & Enrico chose The Venice Venice Hotel, only a short walk from Palazzo Cavalli (even though we moved there by watertaxi!). We enjoyed a romantic sunset on the rooftop terrace, with warm September light reflecting on the water and a quiet aperitivo shared overlooking the canal. Later, they had a private dinner inside one of the hotel’s beautifully restored suites, a historic space filled with character, modern art, and soft light filtering through the windows facing the Grand Canal. It was the perfect way to end such a meaningful and elegant day, intimate yet full of atmosphere.

- Appreciate the ease of staying central, with no need for transport between ceremony and photos
It does involve planning and official documents, especially for foreign couples, but the experience is truly unforgettable.
